The City of Port Alberni is committed to creating a sustainable community that promotes environmental, social and economic prosperity. Under this guiding principle the City recently reviewed its water and sewer utility to ensure there is a long term financial plan that accounts for the full cost of service delivery including replacement of infrastructure over the long term.
“A major issue here is that by taking responsibility for long term sustainability, this should improve our chances at getting senior government grant funding for our big projects,” says Guy Cicon, Port Alberni’s City Engineer. “Our water meters and our new rate structure which is both conservation oriented and equitable across the different customer groups are among the most significant elements of our sustainable water utility plan”.
Port Alberni’s city council adopted the new rates in July 2015. See the report and read more here.
